World Refugee Day

By June 25, 2026No Comments

Dear R R Smith Board,

I wanted to take this opportunity to share something with you that reflects both the human reality of World Refugees and our work on humanity & inclusion.

Rather than talking about the refugee crisis in general terms, we’ve chosen to focus on a few individual stories. The short piece I’m sharing highlights the stories of three children living in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, where more than 270,000 refugees are currently housed, and where children make up more than half the population.

We discover what daily life can be like in a situation of displacement when compounded by a disability: barriers to education, isolation, stigmatization… but also resilience and the life-changing impact of timely, tailored support.

Humanity & Inclusion’s holistic and systematic work to identify children who are often overlooked, empower families and schools, and establish inclusive educational systems capable of bringing about lasting change. This same approach is also being implemented in the project in Rwanda supported by your foundation.

Thank you again for your R R Smith Memorial Foundation support and commitment to our mission. It is truly what allows this work to exist and grow.

In solidarity,

Jean Maso (He/Him)
